The Sarawak Heart Foundation (SHF) was formally set up in 1995 under the Companies Act 1965 and launched by the Chief Minister of Sarawak on 6th September 1997. However, it was SABATI, under the leadership of YABhg. Datuk Amar Puan Sri Laila Taib, that actually founded and created SHF.
SABATI (short form for Sarawak Badan Amal Tenaga Isteri-Isteri) was formed in 1982 to help individuals and contribute to charitable institutions. Amongst SABATI's many charitable activities was sourcing for funds to assist heart patients who were from the lower income group and from 1988 to 1977, it had sponsored 384 heart patients to undergo operations and treatments. In 1995, SABATI mooted the idea of setting up a dedicated organization to look into issues and problems related to heart diseases which led to the formation of SHF.
The primary objective of SHF is to provide support to heart patients by financing their treatment as well as purchase necessary medical equipment for treatment, recuperation and rehabilitation of heart patients.
Apart from that , SHF aims to provide grants or sponsorships to hospitals, institutions of higher learning and professionals in the medical field to carry out medical and other research related to heart diseases.
In an effort to raise public awareness of heart and related diseases, SHF intends to organise seminars , exhibitions and talks on such ailments.
SHF also partners with individuals and organizations in activities to bring greater awareness of this 'silent killer' in the society and welcomes contributions from the public to further its range of activities and efforts aimed at reducing, prevention and eventually eradication of heart related diseases.

YABhg. Datuk Amar Puan Sri Laila Taib
As a President of SABATI and Chairman of SHF, YABhg. Datuk Amar Puan Sri Laila Taib was the main force behind these organizations and her tireless efforts led to the success and growth of both. Serving as a volunteer in the fund raising efforts over the years, she was instrumental as the leader in achieving the many milestones of SHF to bring relief and cheers to heart patients and their families throughout the state. Her current presence and guidance is both an assurance of the continued success of SHF in the years ahead and commitment to serve the community which is close to her heart.
Datin Jamilah Haji Anu and Datin Anne Teng
As members of SABATI, these two hard working and dedicated women were the hands-on forces to push many of the projects organized by SABATI, including the setting up of SHF and its related activities. Apart from their busy roles as wives and mothers, they took time off to donate considerable time and efforts to ensure that organized events were carried out smoothly and efficiently by lending support to the numerous other volunteers involved.
Generally, SABATI members whole-heartedly support the many projects undertaken and served in many capacities in the initial stages of SHF's formation and growth which included enlisting the services of many prominent and renowned doctors to also volunteer their special skills and knowledge.
Datuk Dr Saw Huat Seong
Sarawak born Datuk Dr Saw Huat Seong's skill as a heart surgeon is beyond question in the medical circle; his success and accomplishments made him a much sought after doctor among the elite specialist medical institutions. Nevertheless, he has remained humble and down to earth when it comes to volunteering his services, especially to SHF. He had contributed as a doctor, advisor, donor and ' recruitment officer ' to ensure that SHF became successful and strong as he whole-heartedly believed in and supported the foundation's noble aims and objectives.
Action for Happiness is a tiny organisation aiming to have a big impact. We rely on donations to support our activities. Your support really can make a difference so please give generously!
